''It is a fact that people living in Mediterranean countries are healthier than Americans and that they have almost half as many deaths from cardiovascular disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, and obesity as Americans.''
As a holder of a European Passport and have lived most of my life in the United Kingdom, I know that fast food was the main source of evening meals, however living in Spain my diet has completely changed, I drink more water and eat more healthy foods, as do the majority of the Spanish population. I have noticed a lot more fish, fresh vegetables and fruits as well as a good intake of vitamin D are included in a Spaniards lifestyle. Here is some evidence I have found regarding healthy foods and the relation to a better quality of life.
''Scientific studies have associated good health not only with the ingestion of healthy foods, but also with a lifestyle linked to family life, leisure time, regular physical activity.''
''Britain and Ireland have the highest average incomes in Europe, but come bottom in terms of quality of life, while Spain is at the top of the index, according to a study published by U-Switch, a British service comparison website.''

As the prices of fruits and vegetables are cheaper in Spain than United Kingdom as they are grown most of the year here, it means that the fruits and vegetables are more accessible to low income families leading to a healthier, longer life. A life expectancy chart shows that Spain is ranked 6th, United Kingdom 20th and United States 36th.. Showing what impact a healthy environment and better quality life has.

However during the months that I have been here in Spain I personally have seen the introduction of new fast food restaurants, would this then mean that the tradition of the Spanish diet is going to change? Or will the fast food restaurants soon be empty and not in business, or will they thrive like they do in the United Kingdom?
